Can you build the perfect portfolio on the ASX?

There are now 285 exchange-traded products or ETPs listed on the ASX with a combined value of more than $135 billion. That's an enormous step up from the $6.86 billion invested across 90 ETPs 10 years ago. The move to exchange-traded products is one of the significant trends running through the investment industry, and it is showing no sign of slowing.

Sixty-five new exchange-traded products were added to the ASX in the past two years, from fully diversified portfolios and traditional index funds to thematic ETFs, hedge funds and active strategies. The breadth of tools at investors' disposal is changing dramatically.

This growth is supported by end investors drawn to the relative ease at which these products can be bought and sold, the low fees (in many cases) and the broader application that ETPs have in a diversified portfolio.

With so many products on offer and more in the pipeline, Livewire is launching a new series to help investors get up to speed with all things exchange-traded. The Series will kick off in late March and will feature insights from leading wealth managers, asset allocators and research houses. We'll draw on their portfolio construction expertise to show how investors can build portfolios to meet their requirements.

We'll also be running feature interviews with eight fund managers across a range of asset classes to learn about the opportunities they see in 2023 and their funds' role in a portfolio.
